Proposal: £100 M&S Vouchers as an incentive for the WMUH travel survey in 2010. This is with the aim to increase the number of staff participating in the survey, to increase the strength of the results. The request follows previous experience with extremely poor response rates to previous NHS travel surveys.
Update: We got a 27% response rate compared the previous one in 2008 of 10% .We were then able to take actions linked to the results.
The findings for the survey in 2010 were positive. In particular, there has been a positive impact on single occupancy car use with a 23% decline over the two year period. At the same time there has been an increase in bus usage from 17% to 22%, cycling from 8% to 12% and walking from 10% to 15%. Based on the above we can conclude that WMUH exceeded targets set in 2008. In addition to this, the recommendations set out in the previous survey 2007 indicated that an extra bus route would benefit the Trust reducing single car journeys for patients, staff and visitors. This has now come to fruition. TFL have subsidised a small project to erect road signage and bus stand to allow an additional bus route to come on site. Signage and road markings were carried out w/c 9/05/11 and TFL have yet to confirm the date of commencement for the extended bus route 110. July or more likely September. So lots of good things to come out of the survey in 2010
